Two types of leather scraps – full grain leather and slit leather scraps are collected from tanning factories.

The leather scraps (also called industrial waste) will go through grinding process so that leather fibers are extracted and they are called recycled leather fiber.

From the fiber category, recycled leather fiber is one type of the collagen fibers. The length of the recycled fiber ranges from 3 to 30mm. Recycled leather fiber are blended with other fibers such as cotton, wool, polyester and nylon to form recycled leather yarn that can be used in fashion, footwear and home textile.

Once recycled fiber is produced, there are two applications for the fiber: First, it can be blended with other fibers to form recycled leather yarn which can be used for knit and woven fabric, flyknits footwear and socks;

Second, the recycled fiber can be made into recycled leather base, the unique Shenghe leather base contains about 75% of real leather fiber and 25% of other fibers. Recycled leather base is used widely in footwear, car industry, furniture and bags.

Absolutely, recycled leather and recycled leather yarn is eco-friendly. Leather is a by-product from the meat industry, and the leather industry uses the skin of cow that would otherwise mostly end up as landfill. And recycled leather and yarn come from leather scraps or waste created by the leather industry.

During the recycle leather yarn process, only grinding and extracting process are involved and they are totally mechanical process and not chemical added to the leather.

In another words, we simply change the shape of the original leather and make them into new leather yarn and leather base. Thus, the process itself causes very little carbon emission.

Worldwide, a great amount of leather scraps is being left over, and most of them are end up in the landfill which causes tremendous damage to the environment.

By recycling leather scraps and making them into useful leather yarn again, we are reducing the waste, increase recycled content, save water and lowers carbon footprint.

We supply two products: recycled leather yarn and recycled leather base.

First, we collect leather scraps from certified tanneries. We sort and grind the scrap leather into fibers. The fiber produced will be used in two types of the products: the yarn blending recycled leather fiber with other fibers such as cotton, wool, viscose, polyester and nylon to form recycled leather yarn, which can be used from many types of fashion products such as knits, sweater, socks and flyknits footwear.
